Checklist For Hiring A Contractor

Checklist For Hiring A Contractor

At Boca Raton Services we made finding the right contractor to handle your job easy and free from worry.

We have performed the basic research for you by pre-screening our member service providers. Most, but not all of our members belong to their local Better Business Bureau and have excellent ratings.  That doesn't mean that a non-member is unqualified to handle your home care requirements.

That said, it makes common sense to always do your own research before hiring any service providers to work in or  around your home.

Here are a few simple things you can do.

Check reputable online forums, Have a list of questions you may have about your job. Keep in mind that you want to get at least two or three estimates to make side by side comparisons.

Here are a few things to look for before making your final choice.

1. Does the contractor have a good online reputation?

You want someone who is experienced and does quality work. Take some time to research the contractor online and if they meet your expectations online they are more likely to exceed your expectations on the job.

2. Is the contractor licensed to operate in your area?

For larger jobs ask the contractor for a copy of their license and bond policy. Their license will tell you a lot about if and where they can operate. For smaller jobs, it’s not a deal breaker to hire unlicensed service providers.

3. Will you be given a written estimate?

The majority of work that you require will most definitely require a written estimate.  You should never have to guess about the cost of your service.  If there are any "extras" that pop up during the course of the work, be sure that you are made aware of the situation and that you sign off on any extra costs.

4. Will they be timely and attentive and communicate clearly the scope and costs of their work?

Are they quick to schedule appointments and return phone calls?  Did they answer all questions to your satisfaction? Did they offer a timeline to begin and finish the job?  Did they show respect for your time? I

If you are able to answer YES to these questions then it's a pretty safe bet the contractor will act accordingly on the job.

You can tell pretty much tell everything you need to know prior to signing on the dotted line.  Sometimes people run late or miss phone calls, but that should be the exception, not the rule.

5. Make sure you feel comfortable asking the contractor questions and engaging in conversation. And finally . . . Look them in the eyes.  Because the eyes rarely lie.
